| Cartography
Given
the inherent spatial context to conservation work, maps
are a perfect tool for communication and planning. Thematic
maps designed with GIS can be tailored to suit the specific
needs of an organization or project, including "woodlot
to watershed" scales!
Natural
Resource Inventories & Open Space Plans
Typically
in partnership with a municipality or conservation commission
client, Stewardship Technology aims to work collaboratively
with ecologist, botanist, wildlife biologist, citizen
volunteers, etc, to integrate spatially explicit landscape
information into the development of planning documents.
Our efforts are aimed at assisting the planning process,
with a goal towards successful implementation.
Trail
Database Development and Mapping
At Stewardship Technology we welcome
the opportunity to “leave the computer” and
head for the trails with our GPS unit. We have worked
on several projects that included data capture with GPS
equipment, database development, and map production.
Typically we find that there are numerous opportunities
for organizations to leverage the availability of volunteers
to engage in such efforts. Combined with our support
related to project oversight, we believe an organization
can maximize desired outcomes.

Needs Assessment
We
offer a menu of choices as to the scope of a needs assessment for your
organization. As we highly recommend a needs assessment as a first step
for those venturing into the use of GIS technology, we also recognize
the need for offering flexibility as to the scope of this effort.
GIS
Database Development
Developing
a new GIS poses significant challenges in identifying, organizing and
assimilating source geographic data. Stewardship Technology will begin
with a discussion of your organizational objectives. This will help
us determine the appropriate scale, projection, and resolution of data
to acquire, as well as general GIS data library maintenance protocols.
Data development, conversion, & enhancement are specific services
offered by Stewardship Technology.
GPS
Services
Stewardship
Technology applies their expertise in the field of GPS technology by
assisting clients with selecting the appropriate equipment, designing
data capture methodologies, implementing qa/qc procedures, and developing
GIS datalayers and cartographic products from the GPS data. Habitat
resources, trails, stand characteristics, and property boundaries are
examples of features that Stewardship Technology has experience capturing.

Grant Writing
We are very familiar with the scenario
of municipal government desiring to utilize GIS but not
adequately funding it. Stewardship Technology can provide
assistance researching grant opportunities and writing
grant applications, as another means to fund GIS related
endeavors.
GIS
& GPS Software Training
Stewardship Technology staff has experience
in providing training on an individual level as well as within a classroom
setting. Curriculum is developed customized to the clients needs, with
an objective towards assisting the client on the "steep" GIS
learning curve.

Management / Spatial Analysis / Application Development
General
terms capturing the many specific services that we provide for clients.
From assistance in assessing municipal fire coverage, to the process
of developing an internet mapping tool for your organization, Stewardship
Technology staff offers extensive experience garnered from the combined
20+ years as GIS professionals.

| The
primary focus of our woodlot management division is to provide consulting
services to individuals engaged in stewardship activities on their property.
In addition, we offer our technical expertise in an effort to compliment
the work of professional foresters.
For
the Foresters....
For the foresters we offer an alternative for those that would like
to upgrade their existing data capture and mapping capabilities, but
have encountered the following challenges:
a)
the recreational hand held units fall within an acceptable price range,
but fail to provide information that meets spatial accuracy criteria,
i.e. the Garmin, Magellan, typical Cabella mail-order models, etc, attempting
to capture information on a high humidity day, within a riparian corridor,
on a north facing slope, with a heavy hemlock canopy cover....and something
about a snow balls chance in ......
b)
the exuberant price (e.g. $5,000-$15,000) associated with the professional
grade units (e.g. Trimble). i.e. it is not financially prudent to buy
a lobster boat and traps because you would like lobsters for dinner!
c)
the STEEP learning curve associated with this technology.... as if foresters
are not busy enough staying on top of the learning curve associated
with the traditional components of their trade. Stewardship Technology
support allows the foresters to integrate the associated GPS/GIS products
into products provided to clients, in the absence of absorbing the opportunity
cost associated with using this technology.
For
the Property Owner.....
For the property owners and woodlot stewards, we provide assistance
with the many endeavors related to woodlot property management. The
spectrum of services offered range from assistance in areas such as:
current use program enrollment, cost-share funding acquisition, easement
and estate management consultation, etc., - to – the “hands-on”
tasks of property mapping, boundary blazing, stand thinning, etc., Working
with our "brother" organization Goodwin
Construction we are able to expand our services to offer small
scale timber harvest, site clearing, and general woodlot management
endeavors. The Goodwin
Construction services are tailored to the landowner interested in
"customizing" the scale and intensity of desired woodlot activity.
Our motto for Woodlot endeavors is that "we seek to assist those
who enjoy working with their property as much as we do ours".
