Travels
down the “GIS path” began
as a geography major at Keene State
College in 1993. Cartography a degree
requirement, and I being challenged
to draw a stick figure, I opted to
take a first time offered GIS class.
A close proximity to the family woodlot
in Acworth, NH during this time period
initiated the conversion from one
whom had spent his childhood playing
on the woodlot, to an interest in
woodlot management related tasks.
The “GIS path” led to
the University of Massachusetts were
I received a master’s degree
in regional planning, managed the
OGIA
lab, and as a diversion from
studies, began applying technology
to the management of my woodlot.
Professionally the “GIS path”
led to employment at the Massachusetts
Department of Environmental Protection
(MADEP), Massachusetts Water Resources
Authority (MWRA), MassGIS, Harza
International, City of Flagstaff,
AZ, and the City of Salem, MA.
Currently, the “place on the
path” is one in which I have
found residence in Norwich, Vermont.
I continue to be actively involved
in the use of GIS technologies in
the municipal environment, GIS to
support conservation and natural
resource endeavors, and the integration
of information technologies in the
area of woodlot management.
